Guide to the Early Years Foundation Stage in Montessori settings
We aim to integrate the Montessori ethos with the Early Years Foundation Stage, we believe by using different approaches and methods, we will provide the child with secure foundations for later learning and understanding. The principles which underpin both approaches focus on the child, the learning environment and the relationships within it in promoting children’s learning and development. Early experiences affect children’s attitudes to learning and these experiences create the basis for later learning in school and beyond.
There are seven areas of learning and development that shape the educational programme in early years settings.
Three areas are particularly crucial for igniting children's curiosity and enthusiasm for learning and for building their capacity to learn, form relationships and thrive. The synergy in the principles ensures that Montessori early years education works well alongside the EYFS without losing its key focus on following the child.
